At a recent family gathering, I found myself navigating the sharp criticisms from a certain family member. I took deep breaths and prayed for my heart to forgive swiftly while setting some distance and appropriate boundaries during the event. Yet, the sting of criticism was undeniable. Embracing spiritual principles and putting them into action is a demonstration of faith that can sometimes lead to challenges.
The next morning, as I spent time with God reading James chapter 5, I discovered an inspiring theme surrounding suffering. James chapter 5, verses 7-13 (ESV) reads:
7 Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer
waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the
early and the late rains. 8 You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming
of the Lord is at hand. 9 Do not grumble against one another, brothers, so that you
may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing at the doors. 10 As an example of
suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.
12 But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any
other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall
under condemnation.
13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing
praise.
As I dove into this Holy scripture, it felt like it was written just for me, and it completely transformed my perspective! I swapped my victim mentality for the mindset of a victorious warrior, choosing to pray instead of passing judgments or criticism. Suddenly, I gained this incredible insight: blessing the name of Jesus and praying for those who offend us unleashes the spiritual ninja warrior within! It flings open the doors to powerful prayers that bear amazing fruit. By re-shaping my internal narrative, my emotions shift, my behaviors evolve, and my heart undergoes a remarkable change!
